Union Minister Advocates for Skill Integration in Education
Guwahati, Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary recently highlighted the Central government's commitment to the development of the North East region.
The Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship stressed the need to integrate skilling with formal education, aiming to create new employment opportunities for the youth.
He made these remarks during the inauguration of the IndiaSkills Regional Competition 2025–26 for the North East, where participants from all eight states will showcase their talents across 26 skills.
Chaudhary pointed out that the prime minister's ongoing focus on the North East has instilled renewed confidence and opportunities for young people in the area.
He stated that initiatives like IndiaSkills align with this vision by bringing national platforms directly to the region's young talent.
"IndiaSkills is not just a competition; it celebrates excellence, discipline, and the dignity of work. The North East is brimming with talent and aspirations, and this platform showcases our belief that its youth are ready to contribute to India's skilled workforce and the nation's growth," Chaudhary remarked.
Emphasizing the need for closer alignment between education and skill development, Chaudhary noted that this integration is vital for enhancing employability, fostering entrepreneurship, and preparing youth for a rapidly changing economy.
The ceremony also featured notable attendees, including Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University, Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Principal Secretary of Assam's Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department, and Hena Usman, Joint Secretary of MSDE.
For the first time, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, along with the National Skill Development Corporation, has brought the premier skilling championship to the North East region.
Competitors from various Directorate General of Training institutions, including Industrial Training Institutes and National Skill Training Institutes, are participating, demonstrating the increasing synergy between vocational education and national competitive platforms.
The North East Regional Competition has attracted 162 competitors from all eight states, covering a wide array of skill areas such as Automobile Technology, Cloud Computing, Mobile Applications Development, and Fashion Technology.
The IndiaSkills competition utilizes a structured, multi-tier evaluation process to identify and nurture top talent across the country.
Participants are initially assessed at the district level, followed by state-level competitions, leading to regional competitions where top performers qualify for the national stage and have the chance to represent India at the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai this September.
