Zeenat Aman Advocates for Turtle Conservation in Goa

Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman recently expressed her deep emotions after witnessing the incredible sight of turtle hatchlings in Goa. In a heartfelt post, she highlighted the urgent need to protect the environment and preserve biodiversity.

Aman described the moment she observed the tiny Oliver Ridley sea turtles instinctively making their way to the ocean. Despite the odds stacked against them, with only 1 in 1000 hatchlings surviving, these newborns bravely fought for their lives from the moment they emerged from their eggs.

She reflected on the impact of this experience, stating, "I don’t really expect to have once-in-a-lifetime experiences anymore. Then I witnessed a sight so poignant I am in tears just writing about it." The emotional weight of witnessing such a delicate struggle for survival resonated deeply with her.

Challenges Faced by Hatchlings

In her post, Aman acknowledged the significant threats these hatchlings face, including pollution, fishing nets, and habitat destruction. She urged the Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, to prioritize ecological protection in the region. Without swift action, Goa's rich biodiversity is at risk.

Aman emphasized that the challenges faced by these tiny creatures, while they may seem small in the grand scheme of human suffering, are crucial to our collective humanity. She wrote, "By feeling our intrinsic connection to the natural world, the compassion and wonder it evokes, maybe we can hold on to the ‘humanity’ that seems to be slipping away from our societies."
