Alpha: YRF Rejects ₹215 Crore Netflix Deal for Theatrical Release
Recent reports suggest that the much-anticipated film Alpha, part of the Yash Raj Films Spy Universe and directed by Shiv Rawail, will not be heading directly to an OTT platform. Initially, there were speculations that the movie would bypass theaters due to a lukewarm response to War 2. However, YRF has chosen to prioritize a theatrical release for this film featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari.
According to Variety India, the production house turned down a significant offer of ₹215 crore from Netflix for the film's digital release. A representative from YRF clarified that the rumors regarding a direct streaming release were unfounded. They emphasized their commitment to theatrical experiences, stating, "Yash Raj Films takes immense pride in making cinematic experiences. Alpha is a tentpole movie for the company."
The spokesperson also highlighted that with Alpha, YRF aims to create something extraordinary, praising Alia Bhatt as one of the finest actors in the country and acknowledging Sharvari's talent as a brilliant young actor. They expressed optimism about the film's potential to captivate audiences, akin to other successful action films.
About Alpha
Alpha was initially slated for release on December 25 of last year but was postponed to April 17 this year due to extended VFX timelines. The decision was also influenced by the desire to avoid competition with Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan. As of now, a new release date has not been announced.
In a recent statement at BAFTA 2026, Alia discussed her excitement for both Alpha and another film, Love and War, emphasizing the hard work that has gone into both projects. Fans eagerly await the release of Alpha to see how it performs at the box office.
