Amitabh Bachchan’s Concerns Over Jumma Chumma Hook Step and Jaya’s Surprising Response

Amitabh Bachchan, the legendary Bollywood actor, had reservations about the iconic hook step in the song "Jumma Chumma De De" from the 1991 film "Hum." Choreographer Chinni Prakash recently shared insights regarding Bachchan's concerns during a chat with Friday Talkies. He revealed that both the actor and the film's director were apprehensive that the step could be perceived as vulgar.

Prakash recounted a late-night call from his assistants expressing their fear of showing the hook step to Bachchan, stating, "We can’t show him. We are scared." After performing the entire song for Bachchan, he expressed a need for three months to practice, highlighting his uncertainty about how the hook step would look given his height.

In contrast, Jaya Bachchan, Amitabh’s wife, had a different perspective. During the film's screening, the audience was initially silent while the song played, but erupted into cheers once it concluded. Jaya reportedly told Prakash, "It is looking superb,” showcasing her approval of the performance.

The song, featuring actress Kimi Katkar, remains a beloved classic, celebrated for its catchy tune and memorable choreography. Composed by Lakshmikant-Pyarelal and sung by Kavitta Krishnamurthy and Sudesh Bhonsle, "Jumma Chumma De De" helped solidify "Hum" as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of its time.
