Bombay High Court Prevents Vidnyan Mane from Defaming Palash Muchhal
In a significant ruling, the Bombay High Court has issued an injunction against Marathi actor Vidnyan Mane, preventing him from making defamatory statements regarding music composer and singer Palash Muchhal. This decision comes in response to a ₹10 crore defamation lawsuit filed by Muchhal, who claimed that Mane had made false and damaging accusations against him.
The court's order, delivered by Justice Milind Jadhav on February 11, highlighted that Mane's remarks were 'prima facie insinuating and per se defamatory.' Muchhal's legal team argued that the actor's comments not only tarnished his reputation but also affected his family.
As part of the ruling, the court stated, 'The defendant (Mane) is restrained from making any further references and insinuations of the kind and nature attacking the plaintiff (Muchhal) and his mother.' The bench has scheduled further hearings for March 11.
Additional context reveals that the conflict originated from a commercial dispute between the two parties. Mane had alleged that he met Muchhal in Sangli in December 2023, expressing interest in investing in a film project. However, after investing ₹40 lakh and the project failing to materialize, Mane accused Muchhal of not returning his funds and of other deceitful actions.
This case underscores the serious implications of public statements made by individuals in the entertainment industry and the legal protections available against defamation.
