Celebrating Indian Students: The Brightest Minds in the UK
At a recent welcome reception for new Indian students in the UK, High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami praised their remarkable presence, noting that there are currently 166,000 Indian students enrolled in British institutions.
Doriswami emphasized that Indian students not only represent the largest group of foreign students in the UK but are also among the brightest, significantly contributing to the educational landscape and strengthening ties between the two nations.
The event, organized in collaboration with King's College London, followed a student registration initiative by the High Commission of India and was live-streamed to Indian consulates across the UK.
Since its inception in 2023, this annual reception has welcomed hundreds of Indian students embarking on their academic journeys in the UK.
“Our students are the best we have, showcasing their capabilities and the value they bring to their studies and research,” said Doraiswami. He highlighted the economic contributions of these students, stressing that their presence supports various businesses.
The High Commissioner also pointed out that Indian students play a vital role in the broader educational framework of the UK, contributing significantly through tuition fees and their potential to give back to both British and Indian societies.
“This relationship between our two democracies is advanced by the youth who will take on leadership roles in the future,” he added.
The event not only provided essential advice on banking, safety, and healthcare but also featured a comedy sketch by British-Indian comedian Ahir Shah, making for an engaging and informative evening for the newcomers.
