Chiranjeevi Takes Legal Action Against AI-Generated Deepfake Videos
Renowned actor Chiranjeevi has filed a complaint with the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police regarding AI-generated deepfake videos that depict him in an inappropriate manner. He claims these videos have inflicted emotional distress on him and his family and have severely damaged his reputation.
The police have initiated a case based on his complaint, which includes various sections of the Information Technology Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
Chiranjeevi's Complaint Details
In his complaint, Chiranjeevi expressed that the circulation of these videos has caused 'severe and irreparable harm' to his reputation. He emphasized that these maliciously created videos misrepresent him in obscene contexts, distorting public perception and undermining decades of goodwill.
He has urged the police to conduct a thorough criminal and technical investigation against those responsible for creating, uploading, and distributing these videos. Additionally, Chiranjeevi has requested the urgent removal of the content from the internet, including from affiliated websites.
Legal Protections Granted
Recently, the Hyderabad City Civil Court granted Chiranjeevi an injunction safeguarding his personality rights against unauthorized use of his name, image, or voice. The court's ruling prohibits the commercial or personal usage of his likeness without consent.
Chiranjeevi was last seen in the movies "Waltair Veerayya" and "Bhola Shankar" and is set to star in upcoming projects including "Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu" and "Vishwambhara."
