Dhurandhar Faces Legal Challenges: Major Sharma’s Parents Seek Stay Order
Ranveer Singh's much-anticipated war film Dhurandhar is facing a significant legal hurdle. The parents of the late Major Mohit Sharma have filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, requesting a stay on the film's release.
Major Sharma, a decorated officer posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, is alleged to be the inspiration for the character portrayed by Ranveer Singh. The family claims that the filmmakers did not seek their permission or that of the Indian Army before developing the film.
The petition argues that the promotional materials closely resemble Major Sharma's life and covert missions in Kashmir, commercializing his story without consent. They assert that his legacy should not be altered for profit.
Additionally, the Sharma family contends that the film infringes on posthumous rights and reveals sensitive military tactics without appropriate clearance. The case names several respondents, including the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and director Aditya Dhar.
In response to the growing concerns, Aditya Dhar clarified that Dhurandhar is not based on Major Sharma's life, assuring that any future biopic would involve the family's consent and aim to honor his sacrifice.
As the Delhi High Court has yet to schedule a hearing, Major Sharma's parents are advocating for all portrayals of the Indian Army to obtain prior approval to ensure accuracy and respect.
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, features a star-studded cast including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, and Sara Arjun.
