Ektaa Kaull Makes a Comeback to TV with New Boundaries
In a time when discussions about work-life balance in the film industry are gaining traction, actor Ektaa Kaull is stepping back into the television scene after a five-year hiatus. The new mother, who welcomed her son Ved Vyas in June 2020, is set to appear in the upcoming show 'Hui Gumm Yaadein - Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan'.
As she prepares for her return, Ektaa emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries: "I can't be on set for 25 or 26 days a month. Around 17 to 20 days is my limit," she states firmly. The production team has been accommodating, discussing the possibility of not working on Sundays to ensure everyone has family time.
Addressing the emotional challenge of leaving her child at home, Ektaa admits, "It's still a very difficult decision for me." She used to take her son to the sets, but with his new school routine, adjustments are necessary. Fortunately, her team is supportive, making it easier for her to navigate this transition.
Returning to the sets feels like coming home for Ektaa. "In these five years, I've evolved as a human being. Now that I'm a mother, I carry that experience with me," she reflects. She sought a character with depth and substance, which she found in her new role, describing it as layered and meaningful.
Contrary to common perceptions, Ektaa feels that motherhood has empowered her to explore diverse roles. "I’ve done an action film and a few web shows after becoming a mother. I love portraying different characters, especially when they challenge me," she shares.
While taking a break was a personal choice, Ektaa's return to work has been a smooth journey. "I'm focusing on one project at a time and looking for the right script. I didn’t want to come back with just any show or character," she states.
Throughout this journey, she credits her husband, actor Sumeet Vyas, for being her unwavering support. "Sumeet has been a pillar in every aspect of my life. If he wasn't the way he is, I wouldn't have resumed work. He means the world to me," she concludes.
