Eurostar Services Set to Normalize Following Power Outage Disruptions
Eurostar services are likely to resume normal operations overnight after a power supply issue caused significant disruptions. The operator, Getlink, reported that train trips connecting London with Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam were halted due to this glitch.
As New Year approaches, travelers faced challenges as all services were temporarily postponed. However, Eurostar announced that the Channel Tunnel had partially reopened by mid-afternoon, allowing some services to restart.
Getlink confirmed that traffic is being re-established, albeit on an alternative basis, and they expect a return to normal operations overnight. Despite this, Eurostar cautioned that the overhead power supply issue persists, advising passengers to postpone their journeys if possible.
Many travelers were seen scrambling for alternative routes as cancellations and severe delays plagued the service. Stranded passengers gathered at major stations, including London’s St Pancras International and Paris’s Gare du Nord, as they sought new travel options.
Some travelers remained calm amidst the chaos, viewing it as an opportunity for extra vacation time. Others expressed their disappointment, especially those with plans to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Paris.
Eurostar's challenges come at a time when the company has been criticized for high prices and service reliability. After a record-high number of passengers in recent years, the latest disruptions have raised concerns about service consistency.
In addition to the power issues, a failed LeShuttle train also contributed to the disruptions in the Channel Tunnel, further complicating travel plans for many.
