The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow is set to launch its MSc in Political Communication and Media program, commencing in January 2026. This innovative postgraduate course is designed to equip students with essential knowledge and practical skills to navigate the dynamic relationship between politics, media, and public discourse.


Students interested in this program must submit their applications by January 12, 2026. Over the course of one year, the MSc program will explore critical topics such as political messaging, propaganda, misinformation, media bias, and the role of artificial intelligence in shaping communication strategies.


With a strong emphasis on research and methodological training, students will gain expertise in both qualitative and quantitative approaches, utilizing emerging tools like big data and AI. This diverse skill set prepares graduates for careers in political consultancy, journalism, media analysis, public relations, and research.


Program Structure

The program consists of three semesters. In the first semester, students will learn about quantitative social research and statistical software. The second semester includes courses on research skills for media and communication, political communication in the 21st century, and advanced topics in political communication.


The third semester focuses on the dissertation, where students can apply their learning to original research. Additionally, students may opt for a client-based project as part of their dissertation.


The program director, Heinz Brandenburg, highlights the importance of this course in addressing the global demand for experts in political communication, particularly in light of the evolving media landscape.


Fee Structure

The tuition fee for international students is set at £21,550. The university offers 850 Glasgow International Masters Scholarships, ranging from £5,000 to £7,000, with an application deadline of January 23, 2026.
