Fans Go Bald for Exclusive Screening of Emma Stone's 'Bugonia'
LOS ANGELES - Fans gathered for an early screening of the absurdist sci-fi comedy film “Bugonia” on Monday night in Los Angeles, with a unique entry requirement: only bald attendees were allowed.
The film’s distributor, Focus Features, encouraged viewers to shave their heads for a chance to see “Bugonia,” starring the acclaimed actress Emma Stone.
Stone, along with director Yorgos Lanthimos, has previously captivated audiences with their Oscar-nominated collaborations, including “Poor Things” and “The Favourite.”
“Bugonia” is set to hit select theaters on Friday, followed by a nationwide release on October 31.
In this quirky film, Stone portrays Michelle Fuller, a powerful pharmaceutical CEO who is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorist cousins convinced she is an alien—so much so that they end up shaving her head.
To gain access to the screening, fans like Sam Sherman from Los Angeles eagerly embraced the opportunity to shave their heads. “I was already thinking of shaving my head,” Sherman admitted. “This was the perfect excuse—I want to see 'Bugonia' anyway, and I get a free haircut and a movie. It's hard to say no,” he added.
Matthew Lopez, 29, found the bald screening inspired by Stone's own buzz cut to be a fantastic idea. “It feels immersive, like, ‘I did it, she did it.’ I can feel some connection to the story,” he said.
For Richard Chong, 36, it was an opportunity to humor his friends and family. “I like the director; I think he's amazing. My friends hate my bowl cut, so this is for them, and my wife really hates it too,” he shared.
