Farhan Akhtar Celebrates ‘Boong’s BAFTA Nomination as India’s Sole Entry
Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar is making waves not just with blockbuster projects but also with his heartfelt contributions to cinema. His co-produced film, Boong, a poignant Manipuri coming-of-age drama, has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a nomination in the Best Children and Family Film category at the 2026 BAFTAs. This makes Boong the only Indian film to be nominated, with Farhan being the sole Indian filmmaker recognized at the prestigious event.
In a conversation with HT City, Farhan expressed his elation, stating, “The entire team is very thrilled by the nomination for Boong. We are honored that BAFTA has recognised the film’s message and its value for a family audience.”
Boong tells the touching story of a young boy and his single mother living in a village in Manipur, grappling with the mysterious disappearance of the boy's father, Joykumar. Once a working man, Joykumar has vanished, leaving behind questions of whether he is alive or has chosen to abandon them. Determined to bring joy to his mother, the boy embarks on a heartfelt journey with his best friend to uncover the truth about his father's fate.
