FBI Conducts Searches at Los Angeles School District Headquarters and Superintendent’s Residence

LOS ANGELES — The FBI executed search warrants on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Los Angeles Unified School District and at the home of Superintendent Alberto Carvalho as part of a federal investigation.

Rukelt Dalberis, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, confirmed that agents were present to serve warrants but withheld further details due to the sealed nature of the affidavits associated with the searches. A third location in Florida was also involved in the investigation.

While the specifics of the investigation remain unclear, the district and the superintendent’s office did not provide immediate comments regarding the situation.

Television news footage showed FBI agents outside Superintendent Carvalho's home located in the San Pedro neighborhood, approximately 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. There were no visible signs of agents outside the district headquarters as of mid-morning.

Alberto Carvalho has served as the superintendent since February 2022, having previously led Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where he was known for enhancing graduation rates and academic performance.

The Los Angeles Unified School District is the second largest in the nation, serving over 500,000 students across multiple cities. The office of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated they had no information regarding the search and emphasized that the public school system operates independently of city government.

James Marshall, an FBI spokesman in Miami, confirmed that agents had also searched a residence in Southwest Ranches, Florida, but did not provide further information.

Officials from the Miami-Dade school system have yet to respond to inquiries about whether federal agencies have reached out regarding Carvalho.
