FKA Twigs Takes Legal Action Against Shia LaBeouf for Alleged Abuse
LOS ANGELES — Singer FKA Twigs has filed a lawsuit against Shia LaBeouf, claiming he was physically and emotionally abusive during their relationship from 2018 to 2019. In her complaint, she describes her experience as part of a troubling pattern of behavior by the actor.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, begins with a stark assertion: "Shia LaBeouf hurts women. He uses them and abuses them, both physically and mentally. He is dangerous." FKA Twigs, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett, alleges that LaBeouf subjected her to a constant state of fear and humiliation, detailing incidents where he slammed her into a car, attempted to strangle her, and knowingly transmitted a sexually transmitted disease.
LaBeouf has not publicly commented on the lawsuit but acknowledged in a prior email to a media outlet that he has a history of abusive behavior, expressing remorse for his actions.
The couple's relationship began after Barnett was cast in LaBeouf’s autobiographical film, “Honey Boy.” Initially charmed by LaBeouf, she later described living with him as a "living nightmare," marked by isolation from her friends and family and escalating verbal and physical abuse.
Allegations in the lawsuit detail LaBeouf's jealousy and control over Barnett, including a harrowing incident on Valentine's Day in 2019 where he choked her. His erratic behavior included threats while driving and several physical confrontations.
Witnesses, including a housekeeper, corroborated some of Barnett's claims, stating that LaBeouf physically assaulted her when she attempted to leave. The lawsuit also highlights that LaBeouf kept firearms in their home, further contributing to Barnett's fear.
FKA Twigs is seeking monetary damages and has indicated that a significant portion of any awarded money would be donated to charities supporting abused women. She emphasizes that her lawsuit aims to bring attention to the issue of abuse and to ensure that others do not suffer similar experiences.
As the case unfolds, it sheds light on the darker aspects of relationships within the Hollywood sphere, prompting discussions about accountability and the treatment of women.
