Hollywood Stars Compete for Glory at the Golden Globes

Nikki Glaser returns as host for the Golden Globes this Sunday, where Hollywood's top talents will vie for prestigious awards.

This year's frontrunner is Leonardo DiCaprio's film, "One Battle After Another," which leads the nominations. The dark comedy follows a washed-up revolutionary who must act to save his daughter. DiCaprio is joined by co-stars Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor, all of whom have received nominations.

The ceremony, set to start at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount. This year, the awards will also recognize outstanding television shows and introduce a new trophy for podcasts.

In her hosting role, Glaser reassured the A-list attendees that her monologue will be light-hearted. "They shouldn't be worried because I've made this set so that it doesn't ruin anyone's night," she stated.

Among the best movie nominees, "One Battle" will compete against titles like "Marty Supreme," featuring Timothee Chalamet, and "Bugonia." The best drama category includes films like "Jay Kelly" starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler, as well as Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of "Frankenstein."

The Golden Globes are an early highlight in the awards season leading up to the Oscars in March. While the Globes voters do not influence the Oscars, a win can spotlight potential Academy Award contenders.

This year, the voting body has expanded to include more than 300 entertainment journalists, who have also prioritized diversity and ethical practices in their selections. Notably, international films have gained recognition, including entries from Norway, Iran, and Brazil.

In the new podcast category, nominees include popular shows like "Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard" and "Call Her Daddy." HBO’s "The White Lotus" leads TV nominations, followed closely by Netflix's "Adolescence."
