IIT Gandhinagar Launches Innovative Master’s Programs in Design and Maritime Engineering
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar has announced the introduction of two master's degree programs: Master of Design (MDes) and Master of Technology (MTech) in Maritime Engineering. These programs will be open for admissions in the next academic year.
The Master’s in Design aims to blend design thinking with engineering, technology, and social sciences, enhancing skills in systems thinking and collaborative problem-solving for real-world challenges. The MTech in Maritime Engineering will focus on port and ocean infrastructure, logistics, and regulatory frameworks, addressing the educational gaps in maritime studies, particularly in Gujarat, which is known for its port activities.
Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, emphasized the importance of higher education institutions evolving to tackle interdisciplinary and complex issues. He noted that the Master of Design program represents a shift towards merging creativity with engineering and social insight, facilitating student engagement in multifaceted problems. The MTech program aligns with India's strategic goals, particularly in enhancing port-led development and logistics, taking advantage of Gujarat's extensive coastline.
IIT Gandhinagar is strengthening its academic offerings through collaborations with prominent institutions across India, offering various dual-degree programs in association with organizations like the Indian Institute of Science and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology Surat.
