Music composer Ismail Darbar has recently opened up about his contentious relationship with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He did not hold back in expressing his reluctance to collaborate with Bhansali again, even if offered a staggering ₹100 crore.

In an interview, Darbar described Bhansali as 'egoistic'. He recounted how their working relationship soured during the production of the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and he noted that their arguments escalated further during Devdas.

During a chat with Vickey Lalwani on YouTube, Darbar shared insights about their partnership. He noted that a media article praising his music as the backbone of Bhansali's project led to misunderstandings, with Bhansali believing Darbar had orchestrated the publicity.

Darbar stated, “I said, ‘Look, if I have to break the news, I won’t be scared of you; I’ll say it outright that yes, I said it…’” After a heated discussion, he felt that Bhansali's intention to 'let it go' was a signal for him to exit the project voluntarily.

Reflecting on his contributions, Darbar claimed, “When the backbone is Ismail Darbar: I was the backbone in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam… I was the backbone in Devdas too.” He highlighted that he had witnessed Bhansali's ego, fearing that his hard work would go unrecognized.

Despite their past collaborations, including the notable Guzaarish, Darbar confirmed that the fallout was complete, stating, “If Sanjay comes and says to me, ‘Please do the music for my film, I’ll give you ₹100 crore,’ I’ll tell him, ‘Pehli fursat mein chale jaa yahan se.’”
