Johnny Depp Offers Home to Eric Dane Amid ALS Struggle
In a heartfelt gesture of support during Eric Dane's fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), actor Johnny Depp opened one of his Los Angeles homes to him, allowing him to stay free of charge in the difficult months leading up to his passing on February 19.
Eric, renowned for his role in Grey's Anatomy, faced the challenges of ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that gradually weakens and atrophies muscles throughout the body.
As reported, the Pirates of the Caribbean star welcomed Eric into his home as his health started to decline rapidly.
Following Eric's death, his friend and former co-star Patrick Dempsey spoke about the severity of his condition, noting, "He was really starting to lose his ability to speak, he was bedridden, and it was very hard for him to swallow." He added that Eric's quality of life was deteriorating quickly.
Despite their separation in 2017, Eric remained close to his ex-wife, Rebecca Gayheart, with whom he shares two daughters, Billie and Georgia. Rebecca later shared insights into the extensive care Eric required during his final months, mentioning in a December 2025 essay that he had 24/7 nursing support.
Rebecca expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of kindness and support from friends and family after Eric went public with his diagnosis, highlighting the importance of connecting with others facing similar challenges.
