Karan Johar Describes Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Wedding as a ‘Covert Operation’ Transforming Indian Destination Weddings
Karan Johar recently referred to Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli's wedding as a ‘covert operation’ that has significantly transformed the landscape of Indian destination weddings.
In December 2017, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and cricket star Virat Kohli exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Italy, surprising fans and the media with their secrecy. The event was characterized by meticulous planning, leading to a wedding that was free from leaks and media frenzy.
Reflecting on this unique wedding, Karan Johar noted how the couple's approach shifted the norms surrounding wedding planning. He stated, “The texture and DNA of weddings, especially destination weddings, have changed. I would give absolute credit to the Anushka-Virat wedding. The whole country woke up to this wedding; no one knew it was happening. It was a covert operation.”
Wedding planner Devika Narain echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the significance of the wedding lay in its logistics rather than extravagance. This event encouraged couples to personalize their special day, breaking free from traditional expectations.
Anushka and Virat, who dated for four years before their marriage, are now parents to two children, Vamika and Akaay. The couple has since relocated to London, where they seek a quieter life away from public scrutiny, ensuring a balanced upbringing for their children.
