Kareena Kapoor Critiques the Gore Trend in Bollywood: A Call for Romance and Energy
Kareena Kapoor recently shared her insights on the prevailing trend of hyper-masculinity in Bollywood during an interview. She pointed out that films like Animal, Jawan, and Pathaan have sparked a debate about the increasing violence and gore in cinema.
In the interview, she expressed concern that the current cinematic landscape prioritizes shock value and sensationalism over emotional storytelling. "Right now, I am going to call this a trend because I believe it's a trend and it's not going to last. But the trend has always been about spectacle. Every scene has to be sensational and shocking," she stated.
Kareena lamented the absence of fun, color, and romance in films, saying, "Now it's all like thriller, crime, gore and blood and stuff. No fun, energy, colour, song, love or romance." She also noted that she is receiving fewer scripts with substantial roles for women.
Future Projects
Kareena is set to star in Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming film Daayra, which explores complex themes of crime and justice. The film will delve into how society perceives guilt and accountability.
Meanwhile, Kalyani Priyadarshan, who joined Kareena in the interview, echoed her sentiments, mentioning the repetitive nature of the industry trends. Kalyani's upcoming projects include the Tamil film Genie and Marshal, both expected to be released this year.
