Kerala Achieves Historic Milestone with Over 2.58 Crore Tourist Arrivals in 2025
Kozhikode - Kerala's Tourism Minister P A Mohammed Riyas announced that 2025 marked a milestone in the state's tourism, with over 2.58 crore tourist arrivals.
According to Riyas, 2,58,80,365 tourists visited Kerala last year, the highest number since the state's inception.
This figure represents an increase of 28,95,002 visitors compared to 2024.
Domestic tourist numbers surged by 12.64%, showing a remarkable 36.03% rise when compared to pre-Covid levels.
Idukki district led the state in domestic arrivals with 46,79,800 visitors, followed by Ernakulam at 44,29,899, Thiruvananthapuram with 43,75,846, and Thrissur with 31,24,696.
Historically, North Kerala, from Thrissur to Kasaragod, represented only 6% of total tourist arrivals; however, this share has significantly increased in recent years.
Riyas emphasized that this achievement would provide a substantial boost to the state's tourism sector.
He recalled that when the LDF government took power in 2021, the tourism industry was severely impacted by Covid-19, leading to fears of permanent closures of some tourism spots.
To address this crisis, the government engaged in discussions with all tourism stakeholders, devising a phased recovery plan.
Riyas highlighted the strategic use of technology in revitalizing tourism and the development of PWD rest houses for affordable accommodations.
He also noted that the completion of National Highway-66 would enhance connectivity, inviting more tourists to the remote districts of the state.
