Kerala Government Increases DA for UGC and AICTE Teaching Staff
The Kerala government has announced a rise in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for teaching staff under the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and medical education schemes.
As per the order from the finance department, the DA for teaching staff who transitioned to the revised scale from January 2016 will increase from 42% to 46%.
Additionally, for those continuing in the sixth pay scale effective from January 2006 or later, the DA will be raised from 221% to 230%.
The Dearness Relief (DR) for UGC pensioners and family pensioners will also see an increase from 42% to 46% for those whose pensions were revised as per the 2020 government order. For others, the DR will rise from 221% to 230%.
This enhanced DA will be disbursed along with the salaries due for October 2025, while the increased DR will apply from November 2025. The finance department emphasized that this increase is subject to available funds for grant-in-aid institutions.
On a related note, the government had previously increased the DA for state employees and pensioners from 18% to 22%. Local governments are expected to manage any additional expenses from their own funds.
The DA increase will also extend to part-time teachers and contingent employees, along with re-employed pensioners, while employees of state Public Sector Undertakings must obtain prior approval for the enhancements.
