Kerala Government to Challenge Dileep’s Acquittal in 2017 Assault Case

The Kerala government has announced its intention to appeal against the recent court verdict that acquitted Malayalam actor Dileep in the 2017 assault case involving a South Indian actress. This decision comes after State Law Minister P Rajeev stated that the survivor did not receive 'complete justice' from the ruling.

On Monday, the court acquitted Dileep along with three others, while six individuals were found guilty of the assault. Rajeev expressed disappointment over the outcome, noting that although some were convicted, it was not the verdict that was anticipated by many.

The government has affirmed its commitment to support the survivor, as Rajeev mentioned, "The state government has always stood strongly with the survivor, and that will continue." He also highlighted the extensive efforts made by the prosecution, which submitted a five-volume argument to the court.

Following the court's ruling, the prosecution is set to initiate further legal proceedings as directed by the government. Meanwhile, reactions within the film industry have been mixed. Some filmmakers celebrated Dileep's acquittal, while others, including actors close to the survivor, have voiced their support for her on social media.

The acquittal by the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court has reignited discussions about the case, which shocked the public when the actress was attacked in her vehicle back in 2017. The court's decision has prompted debates about justice and support for victims of assault in the film industry.
