Mandana Karimi, the Iranian actress currently residing in India, has expressed her intention to return to Iran as soon as the current regime is removed. Recently, she shared her feelings of betrayal by India after losing many friends in Mumbai for her outspoken views on Iran and her participation in protests.
Following the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mandana indicated that the regime's recent actions have solidified her plans to leave. She envisions a future for Iran where women have the freedom to choose their paths, and the country fosters positive relationships within the Middle East.
In her own words, "The moment they announce that this regime is gone, I will go. My bags are packed, and I am leaving India as well." Mandana reflected on her time in India, noting that while it has shaped her career and provided her with love and friendships, she feels voiceless in the current environment.
She also mentioned her growing homesickness and loneliness in Mumbai, stating, "In these past two months, I have never felt so homesick and lonely. I feel India has betrayed me in a way." Her sentiments reflect a poignant struggle between her identity and the socio-political climate surrounding her.
As Iran mourns the loss of Khamenei, the country faces escalating tensions and potential conflict in the region. Mandana’s experience highlights the complex emotions of expatriates navigating their identities amidst political upheaval.
