Mumbai Police Enforce MCOCA in Rohit Shetty’s House Firing Incident
Mumbai Police have detained five individuals linked to the shooting incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence. The event unfolded around 12:43 AM, when unidentified assailants fired multiple rounds outside his nine-storey building in Juhu, prompting increased security measures in the area.
In a significant development, the police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused. An official confirmed that the suspects would be presented before a special MCOCA court later today.
Some of the detained individuals, including Aditya Gayaki (19), Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18), and Swapnil Sakat (23), have prior involvement in serious criminal activities. Reports indicate that Shubham Lonkar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, is among the wanted suspects, claiming responsibility for the attack.
This incident is not isolated, as similar attacks involving the Bishnoi gang have previously targeted other Bollywood stars, including Salman Khan.
In response to the alarming event, the Indian Film & Television Directors' Association (IFTDA) has expressed its concern, writing to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging him to address the safety of filmmakers.
The statement emphasized, "The film fraternity is in shock over the safety of our esteemed filmmakers. Such incidents foster an atmosphere of fear that is unacceptable. We request the Chief Minister to take immediate action to ensure the safety of our industry."
Rohit Shetty is known for directing numerous successful films, including the 'Golmaal' series and 'Singham.' His latest project, 'Singham Again,' was released during Diwali 2024, featuring prominent actors such as Ajay Devgn and Deepika Padukone.
