Mumbai Woman Shares Her Vegetarian Food Experience in Japan
A Mumbai-based content creator recently returned from Japan, sharing her surprising experience of finding vegetarian food with ease, despite warnings from others about potential struggles.
Charmy, who explored Japan on a budget of under ₹1.3 lakh, took to Instagram to share her journey and offer tips for vegetarian travelers. She found that the common belief that it’s challenging to find vegetarian options in Japan was largely exaggerated.
“Everyone told me it's tough as a vegetarian in Japan. That was wrong. I had some of the best meals of my life in these nine days,” she remarked in her video.
Charmy emphasized that being a vegetarian in Japan is entirely manageable with some preparation and a good translation app. However, she also shared a cautionary anecdote about accidentally consuming meat due to a misunderstanding regarding a pizza topping.
To avoid similar situations, she stressed the importance of effective communication. Utilizing reliable translation apps like Google Translate can be invaluable for understanding ingredient lists.
In her post, she also highlighted that many restaurants optimize their online presence for keywords like 'vegetarian' or 'vegan', making it easier for diners to search for suitable options.
Charmy recommended several restaurants where she enjoyed delightful meat-free meals:
- Sushi Oedo in Shinjuku
- Vegan and Gluten Free Osaka in Osaka
- Kyoto Tower Sando Bar in Kyoto
She concluded her post by encouraging travelers not to let fear deter them from experiencing the rich culinary culture of Japan, stating, “Every single restaurant I visited delivered. Zero issues finding vegetarian foods.”
