NCERT Launches Assessment to Enhance Class 3 Learning Abilities
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is set to conduct a Foundational Learning Study aimed at evaluating and enhancing the basic learning competencies of Class 3 students in Delhi for the current academic year.
As per the Delhi State Council of Educational Research and Training, the study is tentatively scheduled for February-March 2026 in selected schools, with a list of participating institutions to be provided beforehand.
This initiative focuses on assessing how effectively students develop essential reading, writing, and numeracy skills by the end of their foundational stage.
The Foundational Learning Study is a collaborative effort between SCERT and NCERT.
To prepare for this assessment, NCERT has provided sample tasks in both Hindi and English to help familiarize teachers and students with the assessment format.
School heads and principals have been instructed to ensure that Class 3 teachers engage students in these sample activities to enhance their understanding and readiness for the assessment.
Moreover, schools are encouraged to offer a variety of practice questions aligned with the sample tasks to build familiarity and strengthen students' foundational skills.
It is crucial for schools to cooperate for the smooth implementation of this study and to foster strong foundational learning outcomes.
Importantly, NCERT clarifies that the Foundational Learning Study is not an examination or test. Instead, it serves as a diagnostic survey aimed at improving classroom practices and informing policies under the National Education Policy 2020.
