Param Gill Unveils Plans for ‘Bad President’ Sequel Following OTT Success
Filmmaker Param Gill's satirical film Bad President was released in 2020 with minimal attention. However, five years later, it has gained significant popularity, ranking among the most-viewed films on OTT platforms in the United States.
Encouraged by this renewed interest, the creators are now preparing for a sequel. The original featured Jeff Rector as the president and comedian Eddie Griffin.
In an exclusive interview, Gill confirmed that Bad President 2 is in development, with both lead actors returning. He stated, "Yes, we are working on the sequel and plan to begin shooting in the summer with Jeff, Eddie, and others. This time, the film focuses on Trump’s journey to a second term as president." Gill, who transitioned from dentistry to filmmaking, also wrote the script.
Gill reflected on the initial release, admitting it did not create much of a stir at the time. "It was the post-lockdown period, and the film didn’t make many waves, despite being showcased at several film festivals. Recently, we've observed it gaining traction, trending, and consistently ranking among the top films in America," he shared. "We've received numerous requests for a sequel and the distributor has given us the green light for Bad President 2. We have a solid script that perfectly satirizes the president’s second term."
He provided a sneak peek into the film's storyline, explaining, "The satire revolves around Trump becoming president by exchanging his soul with the devil, played by Eddie. The sequel kicks off with the campaign for the second term. It remains a fantasy comedy, untethered to party lines, exploring the evolving landscape both in the US and globally."
Originally from Moga in Punjab, Param Gill has produced several international and Hindi films, including Going to America (2015) and Hotel Hollywood (2010). He concluded, "Despite the challenges we faced during the initial release in 2020, it eventually reached audiences organically. We are ready to tackle whatever comes our way this time!"
