Prada Unveils Layered Elegance at Milan Fashion Week

Does Prada aim to comfort you in a world that’s constantly unraveling?

At Milan Fashion Week, the Prada show debuted with warm knit sweaters and vibrant scarves, only for garments to be torn open, revealing distressed fabrics as the catwalk progressed.

Among the front row guests were Meta's Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, while the crowd's excitement peaked for Thai actor Pond Naravit Lertratkosum and K-pop star Wooyoung, both adorned in Prada.

This collection, crafted by co-designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, celebrated layering with unexpected elements, from faux fur embellishments to shimmering linings peeking from slashed garments.

In their show notes, the designers articulated a theme of "mutations from within, visible to the exterior," as fabrics appeared intentionally distressed, unearthing hidden layers.

Simons remarked backstage, "We appreciate the concept of disparate elements coming together in unexpected ways," as model Bella Hadid playfully kissed Prada's hand.

Hadid was one of just 15 models showcasing 60 outfits, with each ensemble revealing new possibilities through innovative layering.

Simons emphasized the importance of inspiration and contemporary relevance, stating, "It’s about the feel, bringing elements that resonate with us but aren’t necessarily narrative-driven."

Exaggerated pink cuffs adorned shirts beneath sweaters or jackets, while a pink satin dress appeared dramatically torn at the bodice, exposing a sleek black corset underneath.

Animal-patterned fabric scraps enhanced a black silk dress, complemented by bulky sweaters tucked into sheer skirts.

The venue, Fondazione Prada, enhanced the theme of inside versus outside with its elegant pink and white walls, juxtaposed against exposed brick construction.

A short yellow waterproof cape decorated a coat, while a beige jacket unveiled bronze sequins beneath a turned-up collar, reminiscent of the brand's men's show in January.

Simons described their creative process as instinctive, saying, "We design from the heart, mind, and feeling, with respect for history and curiosity about the future."

In contrast, Emporio Armani’s show drew inspiration from the past, embracing a blend of beige and grey tones, reminiscent of the beloved "greige" favored by founder Giorgio Armani.

The collection featured elements like newsboy caps, buttoned vests, and subtle plaids that echoed the style of "Peaky Blinders," alongside shimmering avocado and mauve blouses over tiny shorts.

As the show concluded, female models showcased crisp white men's shirts paired with tight black leggings, creating a reworked tuxedo aesthetic that felt like a glamorous end to a lively evening.
