Rohan Sippy Discusses the Evolving Roles of Actors on OTT Platforms
Filmmaker Rohan Sippy, known for his work on popular OTT shows, suggests that talented actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Kay Kay Menon, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui often find themselves relegated to side roles in major films. However, he emphasizes that on streaming platforms, these actors thrive as leads.
In a recent interview, Sippy discussed the advantages of working in the OTT space, particularly highlighting how this medium provides opportunities for actors who might otherwise remain unnoticed in mainstream cinema.
“So many great actors are getting opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t,” he stated. He mentioned his experience working with actors such as Pankaj Tripathi and Konkona Sen Sharma, who are not considered Bollywood A-listers but have taken center stage in streaming shows.
Sippy's latest project, "Search: The Naina Murder Case," showcases this trend, allowing characters to be more nuanced and relatable. He explained that in the OTT format, storytelling focuses on the depth of characters rather than the constraints of traditional film formats.
As the landscape of entertainment continues to evolve, it appears that platforms like JioHotstar are becoming a crucial avenue for talented actors to showcase their skills and connect with audiences in meaningful ways.
