Sayani Gupta Reveals Mother’s Extreme Reaction to Her Acting Ambitions
Sayani Gupta recently opened up about her mother's intense reaction when she decided to leave her stable corporate job to pursue acting. During a conversation on the podcast 'Cyrus Says', Sayani recalled that her mother threatened to harm herself, saying, 'I am going to slit my wrist if you go.' This drastic response left Sayani feeling isolated, as her mother did not speak to her for an entire month after she enrolled in the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
In the podcast, Sayani expressed the struggles she faced during her transition. She disclosed that her mother had always held a negative perception of actors, referring to them as 'prostitutes'. This attitude made pursuing her passion even more challenging.
Despite her mother's initial disapproval, Sayani mentioned that a change occurred when her mother was offered roles in student films at FTII, leading to a newfound acceptance of Sayani's chosen path.
Since then, Sayani has made significant strides in her acting career, debuting in 2012 with 'Second Marriage.com', and gaining prominence with her role in 'Margarita with a Straw' (2015). She has also starred in notable films such as 'Fan', 'Jolly LLB 2', and 'Article 15'. Her latest appearance was in the fourth season of 'Four More Shots Please', released on Prime Video in December 2025.
