In a touching gesture, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan commemorated Andre Russell, the West Indies cricketer, after he announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). The announcement comes just weeks prior to the upcoming mini-auction for the 2026 season.
Shah Rukh, who is the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), expressed his gratitude for Russell’s contributions in a heartfelt message. He referred to Russell as the 'Knight in shining armour' and reminisced about the fantastic memories shared during his time with the team.
In his tribute, Shah Rukh stated, “Thank you for the wonderful memories, Andre. Your contribution to @KKRiders is one for the books…” He further encouraged Russell as he transitions to the role of a power coach, emphasizing the importance of his experience and knowledge in shaping the next generation of players.
Shah Rukh added, “Here’s to another chapter in your fantastic journey as a sportsman… The power coach - passing down the wisdom, the muscle, and of course the power down to our boys in purple and gold!”
Despite the retirement, Russell remains a celebrated figure in IPL history, known for his explosive performances. He shared insights about his decision, noting discussions with KKR’s CEO Venky Mysore and Shah Rukh before stepping into his new role.
