Shia LaBeouf Faces New Battery Charge in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS — Actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested again, this time facing an additional battery charge after an incident outside a local bar. Police reported that LaBeouf punched multiple individuals during a brawl earlier this month.
The latest arrest took place on Saturday, adding to his previous charge of battery stemming from a February 17 altercation outside the Royal Street Inn & R Bar, where he allegedly used homophobic slurs while assaulting several people during Mardi Gras celebrations.
In a video from the incident, LaBeouf is seen shirtless, reportedly pushing one person down and hitting another, resulting in a possible nose dislocation, according to police reports.
Jeffrey Damnit, a local entertainer, identified as one of LaBeouf’s victims, claimed he was attacked with punches and threats. Damnit recounted that LaBeouf had earlier pushed him from behind and shouted homophobic slurs.
Attempts to restrain LaBeouf proved difficult, as he became increasingly aggressive and refused to leave the area. Police arrived shortly after midnight during the celebration and took him into custody.
LaBeouf has not yet entered a plea and chose not to speak to reporters following a court hearing where he was ordered to return to drug and alcohol rehab. His attorney argued that being drunk during Mardi Gras is not a crime.
