Top 5 Best and Worst Foods for Your Health: Insights from a Mumbai Surgeon

Maintaining good health starts with a balanced diet that provides essential nutrients throughout the day. Dr. Manan Vora, an orthopaedic surgeon from Mumbai and co-founder of NutriByte Wellness, recently shared his insights on five foods, rating them based on their health benefits.

Here’s how he rated them:

1. Ramen

Score: 0/10

While ramen is a popular comfort food among the younger generation, Dr. Vora warns that it is highly processed, high in sodium, and low in micronutrients and fiber. It may taste hearty but fails to keep one full for long.

2. Mango

Score: 7.5/10

As summer approaches, mangoes become a seasonal highlight. They are packed with vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber, and polyphenols, which contribute to improved immunity, skin health, and digestion. However, due to their natural sugar content, portion control is advised, especially for diabetics.

3. Watermelon

Score: 8/10

Watermelon is another summer favorite, known for its hydrating properties, comprising 90% water. It’s rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, beta-carotene, and lycopene, which support heart health and combat oxidative stress.

4. Broccoli

Score: 9/10

Broccoli stands out as a nutrient-dense vegetable, loaded with vitamin C, vitamin K, fiber, folate, and sulforaphane, a compound linked to anti-inflammatory and potential anti-cancer benefits.

5. Parmesan Cheese

Score: 8/10

Parmesan cheese is not only a flavorful addition to various dishes but also a great source of calcium, protein, and vitamin K2, which support bone health. However, due to its high sodium content, it should be consumed in moderation.

In conclusion, making informed food choices can significantly impact health. Incorporating nutrient-rich options while limiting processed foods like ramen can help maintain a balanced diet.
