Tragic Death of NAU Student Leads to Arrests of Fraternity Members

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A tragic incident at Northern Arizona University has resulted in the death of an 18-year-old student following a fraternity event, prompting the arrest of three fraternity members.

The student was found unresponsive at a residence by police on Saturday, after bystanders attempted CPR. Unfortunately, the student was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial reports indicate that the student attended a rush event for the Delta Tau Delta fraternity the previous night, which occurred off-campus.

The arrested fraternity members, all aged 20, include new member educator Carter Eslick, vice president Ryan Creech, and treasurer Riley Cass. They face charges related to hazing, although attorneys for the individuals have yet to respond to requests for comments.

In response to the incident, the international fraternity organization has urged its members to cooperate with the investigation, emphasizing their stance against hazing. CEO Jack Kreman stated, “Hazing is the antithesis of brotherhood and a violation of our values.”

Northern Arizona University has temporarily suspended the fraternity chapter during its own investigation into the matter, reinforcing its commitment to student safety and robust hazing prevention training.

The university remarked, “The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priorities. Violence, hazing, or any behavior that endangers others has no place at NAU.”
