Transforming Education in Arunachal Pradesh: A Vision for the Future
Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced a significant transformation in the state's education sector, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020. This initiative aims for full implementation across all educational levels by 2030.
During the inauguration of the 3rd edition of the Arunachal Pradesh University Festival 2026 in Pasighat, Khandu highlighted essential reforms that have already taken place. This includes the rationalization and closure of around 700 unviable schools to enhance educational quality.
Khandu emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh University, the state's first state-owned university, remains a priority for the government. He assured continued support for its infrastructure expansion, academic advancement, and institutional strengthening.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the ongoing infrastructure development, noting that the university campus is nearing completion, which would elevate its academic standards.
In response to a memorandum from the university's student body, Khandu committed to addressing all genuine requirements and shortcomings. He also tasked the education minister with the responsibility of advancing the university's mission.
He urged for the expansion of the university's 100-acre campus to facilitate future growth and called for collaboration among MLAs, officials, and locals to support this initiative. A master plan review with architects was also suggested to attract foreign students.
Khandu mentioned that limited space could hinder infrastructure and academic development, stressing the need for the university to have 'unlimited scope' for growth.
Significant investments have already been made in the university, and Khandu promised to maintain this support. He also announced plans for developing sports infrastructure at the campus, which will be included in the upcoming budget.
Referencing the vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047', the Chief Minister stated that development should encompass every state, district, and village, highlighting the crucial role today's students would play in this goal.
Khandu encouraged students to actively engage in nation-building through diverse career paths, including public service, entrepreneurship, and agriculture.
He noted that Arunachal Pradesh is a resource-rich state with significant potential, and he believes that the youth will be a driving force by 2047.
Discussions are currently underway for student and faculty exchange programs with educational institutions in Japan. Khandu motivated students to participate in various academic, literary, cultural, and sports activities during UFEST 2026 and wished them success in their future endeavors.
Arunachal Pradesh University currently operates 11 academic departments and offers PhD programs in areas such as Commerce, Economics, Education, Social Work, and Travel Studies.
