Vande Bharat Sleeper Express: A New Standard in Train Meal Hygiene
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made significant strides in improving its meal service aboard trains, particularly on the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. Passengers have long experienced a mix of quality and hygiene when it comes to train meals, but recent updates suggest a positive shift.
On March 6, travel vlogger Aditya Yadav showcased the meal service in the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express through a video on Instagram. The footage revealed a railway employee, equipped with gloves, a hairnet, and a mask, distributing sealed meal boxes from a clean, blue trolley.
Notably, the train's compartment appeared tidy and free from litter, a welcome change from the usual sightings on many trains. This level of cleanliness indicates that future train journeys might become a much more pleasant experience for travelers.
Expanded Meal Choices
In January, Indian Railways announced that passengers would soon enjoy local cuisines on all Vande Bharat trains. The pilot project launched across six routes aims to enhance the overall dining experience.
The inaugural Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, runs between Howrah and Kamakhya and features a menu crafted to highlight Bengali cuisine. Passengers can expect dishes like ghee rice, basanti pulao, and non-vegetarian options such as Bengali chicken curry.
During the return journey, the menu diversifies with jeera rice and Assamese-style chicken masala, ensuring a rich culinary experience for travelers.
