Waheeda Rehman Responds to AR Rahman’s Comments on Bollywood Work
Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman has addressed music composer AR Rahman's recent comments regarding his struggles to secure work in Bollywood, which he attributed to a 'communal thing.' In an interview, Waheeda expressed that the essence of the nation is to live in harmony, stating, "This is our nation, live in peace." She emphasized that instead of getting involved in controversies, she prefers to maintain her calm, urging people to stay happy.
She further noted that Rahman's reduced opportunities could be a result of the evolving landscape of the industry. "Work fluctuates continuously. After a certain age, the industry often seeks new or different talent, which can leave some seasoned artists behind. This is not a new phenomenon," she remarked.
Waheeda Rehman's Perspective
Waheeda's comments reflect her belief that it's essential to focus on positivity rather than the negativity surrounding the industry. She mentioned, "At my age, I don’t want to get involved with anything or anybody. Just live in peace, this country is ours, stay happy, that’s what I can say."
AR Rahman, during a previous interview with BBC Asian Network, hinted at underlying prejudices in Bollywood, saying, "There might be a communal aspect, but it hasn't been overtly apparent to me. I have noticed a shift in power dynamics, where those without a creative background now hold influence." He later clarified his comments, emphasizing his love for India and his intention to uplift through music.
Waheeda and Rahman have previously collaborated on films such as 'Water' (2005) and 'Delhi-6' (2009), showcasing their mutual respect and artistic synergy.
