Diwali Celebrations Illuminate Punjab and Haryana
Chandigarh, Residents celebrated Diwali with great enthusiasm across Punjab and Haryana, gathering at temples and gurdwaras while bustling market places were filled with last-minute shoppers.
Houses were adorned with candles, ‘diyas’, and electric lights as families exchanged sweets and gifts to mark the festival of lights.
Security was heightened in the region, particularly near vital installations, markets, and places of worship, ensuring a safe celebration.
Governors and chief ministers extended warm wishes to the public. Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria emphasized that Diwali represents victory over conflict, urging people to celebrate in an eco-friendly way.
Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh wished everyone a prosperous Diwali, expressing hope that the festival would inspire unity and goodwill among citizens.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Diwali's symbol of prosperity and harmony. He encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and maintain cleanliness.
In a heartwarming gesture, Haryana Police spread joy by visiting orphanages, old-age homes, and slums, lighting lamps and sharing sweets with those in need.
As SP Varun Singla noted, true Diwali is about bringing light into the lives of the less fortunate, making the festival a time for compassion and shared happiness.
