The State Bank of India (SBI), India's largest lender, has launched an annual employee recognition initiative called 'SBI STAR' (Staff Talent Acknowledgement & Recognition). This program aims to celebrate employee excellence in various fields beyond their professional roles.
In line with SBI's commitment to promoting holistic employee engagement and well-being, SBI STAR will acknowledge outstanding talents among employees in areas such as arts, literature, sports, culture, social work, and environmental initiatives.
During the launch, SBI Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty emphasized the importance of recognizing employees not only for their work achievements but also for their personal passions and contributions to society.
Setty stated, "This initiative is designed to honor the bank's multi-talented workforce and reinforce our belief that at SBI, we value our employees in their entirety—as professionals, creators, and active citizens."
SBI has a history of employees demonstrating remarkable creativity and talent beyond their job descriptions. Notable examples include Pratiksha Tondwalkar, who has risen to AGM while pursuing personal aspirations; Sanvli, a visually impaired clerk inspiring her colleagues; and Tarachand Agarwal, who cleared the Chartered Accountancy exam at age 71.
The SBI STAR program encourages employees to self-nominate, with evaluations conducted by each Circle or Vertical based on defined criteria. The final selection will be made by the Corporate Centre in Mumbai.
This initiative aims to foster a culture of recognition and motivation within SBI’s extensive workforce of over 245,000 employees, the largest in India’s BFSI sector.
