Kannur District Triumphs at 64th Kerala School Kalolsavam

Kannur district has clinched the gold cup at the 64th Kerala School Kalolsavam, regarded as Asia's largest school arts festival, which concluded recently.

With a total of 1,028 points, Kannur led the district rankings, narrowly surpassing Thrissur, which scored 1,023 points, while Kozhikode secured third place with 1,017 points.

Malayalam actor Mohanlal presented the gold cup to the representatives of Kannur district during the closing ceremony.

In the individual school category, BSS Gurukulam Higher Secondary School in Alathur, Palakkad district, emerged as the overall champion, amassing 238 points. SVGVHSS Kidangannur from Pathanamthitta followed with 157 points, and MGMHSS Mananthavady finished third with 136 points.

During the valedictory function, Mohanlal emphasized the festival's unique position in Kerala's cultural landscape and its role in nurturing talents who later contribute to Malayalam cinema.

He remarked on the festival's historical significance and its ability to serve as a vital platform for young artists, even in the age of social media. Mohanlal encouraged students to view the event as a learning experience, highlighting the importance of participation over competition.

Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan praised the potential of children in realizing Kerala's aspirations and expressed concern over youth migration. He underscored the importance of retaining talent within the state.

Education Minister V Sivankutty announced initiatives to enhance arts education, including the establishment of arts training centers and improved support for teachers involved in arts and sports.

In a notable gesture, he allowed a student with health issues to participate online, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity in education.

Overall, the festival not only celebrated artistic talent but also promoted values of togetherness, resilience, and community spirit among participants.
