CISCE Cancels Class 10 and 12 Exams in UAE: Alternative Assessment to Decide Results
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has officially cancelled all remaining Class 10 and Class 12 examinations for candidates in the UAE for the year 2026. This decision comes in light of escalating tensions related to the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, the chief executive and secretary of CISCE, stated that results for the affected students will be prepared using an 'alternative assessment mechanism.' Further details regarding this assessment method will be shared at a later date.
This announcement was made through a circular on March 12, following multiple postponements of exams that were initially scheduled between March 2 and 14. The cancellation affects all exams planned through April 6.
Students who are dissatisfied with their awarded marks will have the opportunity to take the Year 2026 Improvement Examination after results are declared.
Reactions among school officials have been mixed. Nargish Khambatta, principal of GEMS Modern Academy, expressed relief over the cancellation, stating it alleviates travel uncertainties. However, she raised concerns about the implications for university admissions, highlighting the ambiguity of the term 'alternative assessment mechanism.'
Lata Nakra, Principal of JSS International School, mentioned that the announcement has provided a sense of calm during this uncertain period.
Students are hopeful that CISCE will implement a fair and effective alternative assessment system that supports their future educational endeavors. In a similar vein, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also cancelled Class 10 exams and postponed Class 12 papers across the Middle East and West Asia regions.
