UPSC to Unveil Provisional Answer Key After Civil Services Prelims

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is set to release a provisional answer key on its website after the civil services preliminary examination, as announced in the Rajya Sabha.

Every year, the UPSC conducts the civil services exam in three stages: preliminary, main, and interview, aimed at selecting candidates for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

In line with a Supreme Court ruling, UPSC has established guidelines for this process, which will commence with the 2026 civil services preliminary examination, as stated by Union Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh.

Singh mentioned that the marks from the preliminary examination will only be released after the final results are declared.

To ensure fairness across various subjects, UPSC employs inter-subject moderation to prevent any candidate from facing disadvantages based on their chosen optional subjects.

Candidates can find detailed information regarding the moderation and evaluation processes on the UPSC's official website.

In response to inquiries about standardizing difficulty levels across optional subjects and the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), Singh explained that CSAT functions as a qualifying paper designed to maintain a minimum standard of quality and analytical skills, with questions corresponding to the matriculation level.

For addressing factual discrepancies, UPSC offers a dedicated platform called the 'question paper representation portal' (QPRep) on its website, allowing candidates to report issues with the question paper and provisional answer keys starting in 2026.

Additionally, UPSC addresses grievances through the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) and via emails. This system enables citizens to submit grievances against government departments online.
