Cautionary Advice from Neurologist: The Risks of Eating Gol Gappa

Gol gappa, a beloved street snack in India, is known for its spicy and tangy flavor. However, enjoying this delicacy without caution can lead to serious health risks. Dr. Priyanka Sehrawat, a neurologist from AIIMS Delhi, has raised concerns about the hygiene of the water used in preparing gol gappa, which can lead to infections.

In a recent statement, Dr. Sehrawat emphasized the potential dangers of consuming gol gappa from unhygienic vendors. "The water used isn’t clean, often harboring bacteria and viruses like Hepatitis A," she explained. This virus spreads through contaminated food and water, leading to gastrointestinal issues and jaundice.

Children are particularly vulnerable, as Hepatitis A can cause severe liver complications in young patients. Dr. Sehrawat advises parents to be especially cautious and to seek medical attention if symptoms such as jaundice or fever arise.

To ensure safety, she recommends avoiding street food altogether when possible. If you experience any symptoms related to foodborne illnesses, it's crucial to consult a healthcare professional promptly.

As festive seasons approach, it's vital to prioritize hygiene and food safety over taste. Remember, while gol gappa can be delicious, the risks may not be worth it.
