Chandigarh Schools Evacuated Following Bomb Threat Emails
On Wednesday, over 25 schools in Chandigarh received bomb threat emails, leading to the immediate evacuation of students and staff. The local authorities acted quickly, initiating police investigations and conducting thorough anti-sabotage checks across the affected schools.
Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police, Kanwardeep Kaur, reported that checks in 10 schools revealed no suspicious activities. The police were alerted early in the morning, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement and emergency services.
Schools located in various sectors, including 25, 19, and 45, received the alarming emails. As a precaution, students were sent back home, and security measures were heightened around the institutions.
Upon notification, bomb disposal teams and sniffer dog units were dispatched to conduct searches in the affected schools. SSP Kaur confirmed that the threats were received from a Gmail account and that the cyber team is currently investigating the source.
An FIR has been lodged at the Sector 17 police station regarding the incident. Kaur reassured that schools without bomb threats remained operational and emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious communications to authorities.
The Chandigarh administration urged the public to stay calm and avoid panic. Parents and citizens were advised to adhere to protocol by reporting any threatening emails immediately. This incident follows similar threats reported in nearby cities, which were later determined to be hoaxes.
