JU Teachers’ Association Threatens Protest Over Salary and Pension Delays

Kolkata - The Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) has announced plans for a protest amid fears that the West Bengal Higher Education Department may delay two months of pensions and one month of salaries for the university's staff.

However, a senior official from the department has dismissed these concerns, stating there is "no question" of withholding pensions or delaying salaries.

JUTA's general secretary, Partha Pratim Roy, expressed that they have been informed about the withholding of pensions for October and November, along with the November salary.

Roy suggested that the university's financial resources are dwindling due to ongoing salary and pension payments.

He noted that the Higher Education Department has redirected the authority over pension approvals away from the university to the Directorate of Pension, Provident Fund & Group Insurance, which could lead to processing delays.

Concerns have also been raised regarding the implementation of a new HR management system, which is seen as a move to centralize salary approvals.

Despite these claims, government officials have assured that there will be no delays in the legitimate economic benefits owed to the teaching and non-teaching staff. They acknowledged that some HR tasks have been delayed due to the transition to a new software system but emphasized that this would not affect salary or pension payments.
