Meghalaya Chief Minister Unveils ₹130 Crore Scholarship for 70,000 Students

Tura, Meghalaya: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma recently announced the release of ₹130 crore in scholarships aimed at supporting approximately 70,000 students for the 2024-25 academic year.

The announcement was made during a programme held at the district auditorium, attended by notable figures including Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui and other senior officials.

In his address, CM Sangma emphasized that the scholarship funds were being released from state resources due to delays in receiving central funding.

This proactive move aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by students, with the ₹130 crore set to be transferred to Meghalaya Rural Bank. Students are encouraged to ensure that their bank accounts are linked to Aadhaar for a smooth transaction process.

Sangma also highlighted the government's commitment to prioritizing education, announcing upcoming reforms to address long-standing issues affecting teachers.

The event saw participation from thousands of students across 200 locations in the state, showcasing the government's long-term vision for youth empowerment through various programs.

"Entrepreneurship and skill development for the youth are essential for the state's growth," Sangma remarked, outlining plans for economic development leading up to 2047.

Education Minister Rymbui described the day as a significant milestone for students, reflecting the government's dedication to enhancing educational access.

Overall, this initiative marks a crucial step in supporting the educational aspirations of students in Meghalaya.
