1,500 Beagles Find New Homes After Rescue from Research Facility

In a heartwarming turn of events, 1,500 beagles have been rescued from a research facility in Wisconsin, where they were subjected to harsh conditions. The first group of these dogs has already begun to feel their newfound freedom, quickly seeking affection from their rescuers.

Lauree Simmons, president of Big Dog Ranch Rescue, shared, "They started within an hour or so coming up to us, wanting attention. Some crawled in people’s laps. Every single one of them are super sweet. I just know they know they’re safe." This initiative comes after negotiations between Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy to acquire the dogs.

The rescue followed protests at Ridglan Farms, where activists attempted to liberate the beagles amid police intervention. Although the purchase discussions began earlier, the organization is now focused on finding homes for 1,000 of these dogs. Already, over 700 adoption applications have been submitted, showing a strong desire from the community to adopt these loving animals.

The first 300 beagles were taken from the facility, with more scheduled for removal in the coming days. They are currently being vaccinated and prepared for transport to shelters across the nation. Simmons emphasized the importance of ensuring the beagles are housebroken and ready for their new families.

Beagles are often chosen for testing due to their gentle nature and smaller size, but this rescue highlights the need for change in how animals are treated. Ridglan Farms has agreed to relinquish its breeding license as part of an agreement to avoid prosecution for animal mistreatment.

As the rescue mission continues, volunteers and animal welfare advocates are working tirelessly to provide these beagles with the love and care they deserve.
