Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Breaks Records with 4 Million Sales in First Week
NEW YORK — Taylor Swift has made history with her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which has sold an astonishing 4.002 million equivalent album units in its first week in the U.S. This remarkable feat includes both album sales and streaming activity, marking the largest first-week sales in modern music history according to Luminate, the leading industry data analytics firm.
This achievement surpasses the previous record held by Adele’s “25,” which sold 3.378 million copies in its debut week back in 2015.
Released on October 3, the album's pure album sales reached 3,479,500 copies within just one week. Additionally, Swift has secured her position as the solo artist with the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, achieving a total of 15, previously tied with Drake and Jay-Z.
Swift trails only behind The Beatles, who hold the record with 19 No. 1 albums. Her success with “The Life of a Showgirl” began immediately upon release, with the album selling 2.7 million copies on its first day alone, breaking her own record for the most first-week sales in just one day.
Moreover, “The Life of a Showgirl” has set the record for the most vinyl albums sold in a single week in the U.S., with an impressive 1.2 million copies sold on its first day. This record was previously held by her 2024 album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which sold 859,000 vinyl copies in its debut week.
One of the key factors contributing to Swift's immense success is the variety of album editions released, including multiple exclusive versions at Target and several unique vinyl variants.
In addition to her music success, Swift is set to launch two new projects with Disney: a six-episode docuseries titled “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour - The End of an Era,” premiering on December 12, and a concert film titled “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour - The Final Show,” which will also feature her latest album.
